Please join me on my 50th birthday! I will be celebrating by hosting a fundraiser for Rude Mechanicals, the internationally known Austin-based theater collective, where I serve on the board.
When: Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 7:30pm (performance starts at 8:00pm)
Where: The Off Center, 2211A Hidalgo St, Austin, TX 78702
What: A Work-in-Progress presentation of I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY, a new musical from Rude Mechs.
This presentation will feature 15 minutes of the musical along with a viewing of projects created around the show. There will also be a champagne toast following the presentation.
I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY is a musical, accompanied by a series of transmedia experiments. The play tells the story of a mother who ties her son to the last mountain lion in Texas. As the ensemble collaborates around this story, they will create music, dance, web, video, visual art and live performance that will come together in their exploration of the Western genre and its responsibility for the world’s current state of affairs. I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY will stretch the company to invent a new way of offering live performance to an increasingly “wired” art consumer.
I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY was recently awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Distinguished New Play Development Project; one of only five awards given nationwide. I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY still needs our local support, so that’s why I’m having this fundraiser for my 50th birthday.
How: Your RSVP and $50.00 donation will get you in the door for this event. Your tax deductible donation to Rude Mechs is your gift to me. This is an organization and a celebration near and dear to my heart. Help me raise $5,000.00; RSVP now:
A SPECIAL NOTE IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND BUT WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT: If you want to be part of the $5,000.00 raised for Rude Mechanicals but won’t be able to attend the event, please RSVP and then drop me a note (to dave@go9media.com) letting me know how many entries you purchased. I have a number of friends who for one reason or another can not donate at this time who I’d love to have in attendance and your entry will not be wasted!
